Discrimination in thermal magnetic protection devices

Types of discrimination

Definition

  • Total discrimination: only circuit-breaker B opens, regardless of current Ic, up to the value Isc, the full short-circuit current at this point.

  • Partial discrimination: B opens up to a value of Ic < IscB. Beyond this value A and B operate simultaneously

  • Non-discrimination. A opens before B (or A and B simultaneously).
