Limitation in thermal magnetic protection devices

The limitation

The limitation capacity of a circuit-breaker expresses its varying capacity to only let pass through on a short-circuit a current less than the prospective fault current.

This characteristic is expressed by the limitation curves giving:

  • limited peak current Ic according to rms strength of the prospective short-circuit current Ip

  • limited thermal stress (of cable) according to Ip (see curves of the Distribution Guide).
