1.3. Check procedure of equipotential connection

1.3.1. Definition of equipotential connection

An equipotential connection aims at connecting with the earth connector all the metal pipes (water, heating, etc.) and all the accessible conductive elements. It allows that no difference of potential can exist between those various equipment.

The metal ducts, flexible or stiff, and the metal sheaths of wire must not be used as protective conductors (but must be linked with EP).

The continuity of the circuit of equipotential protection must be insured for the electric equipment mounted on covers, doors, shutting plates, etc.

It will not be conducted by the closure systems, the support rails, etc.

1.3.2. Realize an equipotential connection in an electricity cabinet

In a cubicle, a metal mass can be accidentally powered up if an active conductor is in contact with. A person who touches this carcass risks a charging.

This connecting allows avoiding that the mass reaches a dangerous potential with regard to the earth. It is compulsory for all the equipment of class 1, it is what name the equipotential.

It is also necessary to protect the people of possible defects of insulation and to allow the leakage currents led by electromagnetic disturbances.

The check of the equipotential connection of the Electric Protections (EP) consists in verifying that all the EP conductors (green / yellow) are well interconnected, to the metal frames and to the earth.
